Obituary: Clifton Leach, aged 98
CLIFTON Leach, a former Halifax chemist and lecturer, has died aged 98.
He was the only son of Alderman F A Leach JP, who was the Mayor of Halifax in 1933/4.
Mr Leach went to Battinson Road School and Halifax Secondary School before becoming a junior chemist at the Halifax Corporation Gas Work.
He left Halifax during the Second World War and moved to Barnsley where he worked on increasing the yield of toluene, which was needed to manufacture TNT.
He also served as a Special Constable in Barnsley police and after the war he became a lecturer.
He finally settled in Middlesbrough after the death of his wife, Violet (nee Bland), in 1998.
