Objection to sex shop licence
THERE has been one objection to the planned renewal of the licence for the Temptations sex shop in Crown Street, Halifax.
According to Ibrar Hussain, the shop is offensive and provocative and does not fit in with the character of the street.
His objection will be put to Calderdale Council Licensing and Regulatory Committee when it meets on Monday.
The shop was first given a licence in 2004 and had it renewed in successive years.
According to a report by the council's registration and licensing services manager, Sarah Richardson, there have been no complaints about the operation of premises as a sex shop and no objections from the police.
If the licence – which costs 2,190 annually – is refused the owner could appeal the decision at the magistrates court.
When the licence for Temptations was renewed last year some Courier readers rushed to its defence.
More than 60 messages were posted on our website and more than 200 readers voted in an online poll with 73 per cent in favour.
