Old Ritz Wurlitzer ready for new role
A Wurlitzer organ that provided Brighouse ballroom dancers with music for 12 years has been installed in its new home.
The instrument was removed from the Ritz, Brighouse, in January 2007 and is now awaiting an official opening after a 135,000 installation at the Victoria Hall, Saltaire, Bradford.
The Cinema Organ Society brought the organ to the Ritz in 1995, where it was used for concerts and dances.
It took months to find a new home for it and it has taken months to install all the pipework that will allow it to be played.
It has been put on a hydraulic platform so it can rise up through the stage when the organist plays.
The Wurlitzer was last heard at the Ritz in December 2006 when it was played by organist Richard Hills.
It was made in America in 1937 and is almost identical to the famous Blackpool Tower ballroom Wurlitzer.
An official opening ceremony will take place on Easter Saturday with Jill Steel, whose late father Reginald Dixon was one of the world's most famous organists.
