Pair jailed for recording court hearing
TWO men have been sent to prison for recording court proceedings.
Noel O'Gara, 62, and Patrick Cullinane, 57, were sent to prison after taking a picture inside the court building and making an audio recording. The pair were recording a bail application by the alleged killer of Lesley Molseed, Ronald Castree.
The pair had also been found in the trial of the murdered Queensbury man, Andrew Ayres.
Stephen Wood QC, defending Cullinane said: "My client visited Mr Castree in prison on August 26 and believed he wanted him to represent him in court.
"He has devoted himself to travelling up and down the country for those who need his help."
Michelle Colburne, QC, defending O'Gara said: "He visited court in the genuine belief that he was supporting Mr Castree and never intended to obstruct the course of justice."
Stephen Gullick sentenced Cullinane, who made the audio, to four months in prison and O'Gara, who took the photograph, to 14 days for being in contempt of court.
He said:"You were found making recordings and your general behaviour threatened court staff and could have obstructed the proceedings. You made recordings or information that no doubt would have soon ended up on some website. These are very serious crimes."
A third man George Wescott, 57, was arrested but later discharged.
