Pensioners on a mission
Calderdale Pensioners had 22 delegates at the Pensioners' Parliament in Blackpool which began with a march from the North Pier to the Winter Gardens with banners depicting each organisation.
Three thousand pensioners from all over Great Britain, Italy and France debated issues of concern to older people. Question time on the first day included a panel of MPs from all parties. The second day was a series of smaller meetings, each of over 100 members, on age, equality, dignity in care, the economy and transport to which many local delegates contributed.
On the final day, the guest speaker was Rodney Bickerstaffe, who was followed by Sir Michael Parkinson with a much-appreciated light-hearted speech. The conference ended with the singing of the pensioners' song Keep Right On To The End Of The Road.
