Plans for the £14m 'triangle' revealed: Offices, cafes and homes included

DETAILED plans have been published for a £14 million scheme to redevelop a rundown area of Halifax, known as the Hopwood Lane Triangle.

It should lead to several buildings being restored, some demolished and 10 new homes being built beside Halifax Playhouse.

Calderdale Council entered into a partnership with Yorkshire Forward and developer Cityheart more than a year ago to move the scheme along and there has been considerable public consultation about it.

A lot of the land and buildings have been semi-derelict and under-used for years.

The aim is to create a showpiece entrance to the surrounding area, which includes the landmark Elsie Whiteley Innovation Centre.

The planning application by Cityheart shows how former shops at 22–24 King Cross Street, nearby Crown Works and the Coach House will be pulled down, along with Ziggy's taxi office.

Numbers 2–4 at the junction of King Cross Street and Hopwood Lane will be turned into a cafe/restaurant, and numbers 6–8, opposite the Courier office, will be refurbished for office use and a cafe.

There will be two further office blocks and 10 town houses, a car park and landscaped court yards on the taxi rank.

The expiry date for representations is the end of February and the planning application is due to be determined before the end of April.
