Poisoned by asbestos
An engineer's death was brought on by asbestos poisoning.
An inquest into the death of Harry Sutcliffe, of Chapel Street, Stainland, ruled the 82-year-old died from bronchal pneumonia but a malignant tumour caused by asbestos poisoning, played a significant part.
Mr Sutcliffe, who died at Overgate Hospice in February this year, had been diagnosed with asbestosis in 2003.
Speaking outside the inquest at Halifax Town Hall, his son John Sutcliffe said he had worked in engineering firms across Calderdale.
But he was thought to have contracted the disease while working in Boothtown between 1963 and 1975 and the firm had already paid out compensation before his death.
Coroner Roger Whittaker recorded a verdict of death from industrial disease.
