Prizes for brass battlers
BRASS band members blew all the right notes at an annual contest.
Bands from across Yorkshire took part in the annual Friendly Band Slow Melody and Quartet Contest, at the Friendly Bandroom, Water Hill Lane, Sowerby Bridge.
The judge was Derek Broadbent, of Shelf, the former musical director of the world famous Brighouse and Rastrick Brass Band and Black Dyke Band, Queensbury.
Mrs Peggy Tomlinson, the Yorkshire Regional Brass Band Secretary, hosted the event.
Winners:
Eleven years and under prize and best cornet category, Kerri Frankland, of Friendly Band.
Thirteen years and under prize and best tenor horn category, Alex Crisp of Clifton and Lightcliffe Juniors.
Sixteen years and under: 1, Jonathan Bates, of Carlton Main Frickley Colliery.; 2, James Wilkinson, Elland Silver Band; 3, Michael Cavanagh, Dobcross Silver Band.
Veteran section and veteran of the day, Jim Tew, of Vernon Building Society, Poynton.
Open Section winner, Jonathan Bates of Carlton Main Frickley Colliery.
