Psychic bids to boot out Shay curse
LUCKLESS Halifax Town have called in a psychic to lift the spirits at the Shay.
The football team have plunged towards the relegation zone of the Conference after picking up just one point in the last 13 games.
On Tuesday night the team was thrashed at home 4-1 by mid-table Burton Albion and tomorrow high-scoring title challengers Hereford United are the visitors.
The latest defeat prompted manager Chris Wilder to question whether there was a curse around the club.
That comment was read by Peter Leckie, a psychic, who contacted Halifax Town director Chris Haddock to offer his services.
Mr Leckie had been a client of Mr Haddock, a solicitor, several years ago.
"He rang me out of the blue,'' said Mr Haddock.
"It has nothing to do with the manager although I have told him and he had a laugh.
"But if the man has good intentions it's a positive thing.''
Mr Leckie was visiting the ground today as fans cling on to any glimmer of hope that relegation can be avoided by an upturn in the Shaymen's fortunes.
Chris Wilder said: "I don't know if there is a curse but they say the longest a manager lasts here is two years.
His comments came after the game on Tuesday against Burton and follow a tale of woe for the Shaymen.
The team has not won in the league since last year when they defeated Scarborough on Boxing Day at home.
The only point in the record winless streak came in a 0 - 0 draw against Shrewsbury at the Shay. Town's previous worst record was set in the 1946 - 47 season after eight successive defeats.
The club was also beaten recently in the FA Trophy crashing 2 - 0 at home to lowly Maidenhead.
