Pub boss is tied up by raiders: They take thousands of pounds from safe

A HALIFAX pub manager was tied up and robbed in a terrifying attack.

The 30-year-old had just locked up Wetherspoon's Barum Top Inn in Rawson Street in the early hours of Saturday when he was ambushed by two robbers who had been lying in wait in nearby Powell Street.

One of them grabbed him while the other searched for his keys.

Finding them, the thief walked back to the pub, unlocked the front door and went through the pub to let his accomplice, and the victim, into the pub from Powell Street.

The pair tied the bar manager up, using cable to secure his hands and feet.

They then raided the pub safe for cash and are believed to have taken thousands of pounds before escaping in the victim's maroon Ford Fiesta. The victim managed to find a knife and cut himself free so he could ring 999.

He was left shocked and shaken, and was taken to hospital. He is now recovering at home.

The culprits were described as white and in their 40s. The one who took the keys and unlocked the front door was described as about 5ft 7ins tall, of a fat build and wearing a brown hat. The other was about 6ft tall and slim. Detectives are urging anyone who witnessed the robbery, which happened at 2.45am on Saturday, to get in touch.

They are especially keen to hear from the driver of a car which drove past the robbers in Powell Street as they attacked the victim.

And they want to hear from anyone who saw the Ford Fiesta, which was found in The Gardens, off Free School Lane in Savile Park, in the early hours of Sunday.

The pub was closed on Saturday, with a note on the door saying it would be shut all day because of the robbery.
