Pupils' beach art show

ARTWORK by pupils was on show in an exhibition opened by Yorkshire artist Donald Myers.

The former teacher was back at Hipperholme Grammar School to open the Young Artists and Designers Exhibition 2009.

Mr Myers said: "It certainly has a wow factor."

Every child at Hipperholme Grammar Junior School produced a piece of work for the exhibition to create a beach.

Children from Triangle, St John's, Clifton, Christ Church, Pellon, Warley Town and Sacred Heart, Sowerby Bridge, primary schools, who are taking part in the grammar school's Art Outreach Programme also took part.

Adult artists displayed their work at the school's West Yorkshire Art Exhibition.

The winners were: best in show, Sunburst by Matthew Evans' of Brighouse; best original watercolour, Evening Sun in Swaledale by Colin Scholey, of Norwood Green; best oil/acrylic painting, Through Autumn Woods by Muriel Kaye, of Brighouse; best mixed media, The Last Ent by Bernard Todd, of Leeds; best young artist, Cascading by Francesca Pearson of Clifton.
