Rain fails to dampen celebrations of Prophet Mohammed’s birth
Procession for Muhammad's birthday from Frances Street Mosque moves down Hopwood Lane.
HUNDREDS turned out despite sleet and rain to mark one of the most important dates in the muslim calendar.
The birthday of Mohammed, the last prophet, was celebrated with a procession from the Al-Jamia Al-Zahra Mosque, Francis Street, Halifax.
The route was lit up with fireworks throughout and finished at Parkinson Lane Primary School.
Professor Syed Ahmad Hussain led the procession.
A spokesperson from the mosque said: “This is a great day celebrating the birth of the blessed prophet Mohammed.
“Tomorrow we will have a meeting of scholars from across England and Pakistan in honour of this special day.”

Monday, January 30, 2012 at 02:55 PMHow, I would like to know, was this parade allowed to go ahead, when the English amongst the community cannot celebrate St. George`s Day and fly our Saint`s flag...for fear of upsetting some un-named "minority" group, that happen to live in our country, take all the welfare benefits but seem to get upset because we are English, I would re-iterate the Australian Prime Ministers words "One freedom that is left to you who do not like what we do, is the freedom to leave" Lets make Saint George`s Day Celebrations Compulsory in ALL schools !

Saturday, January 28, 2012 at 05:29 PMThe worst kind of "journalism". The Courier writes, "The birthday of Mohammed, the last prophet,..." Really? This is fact? Um, no. Courier, you should have written "who Muslims believe was the last prophet". Really, Courier. You need to raise your standards.
