Regional minister continues to make Yorkshire jobs case to Lloyds

Regional Minister Rosie Winterton met the Lloyds Banking Group's top implementation team in London on Monday to continue pressing the case for jobs in Yorkshire.

And following the meeting - held a day after HBOS was taken over to form the new group - she had a message of hope for workers in Halifax.

She said: "Lloyds has already given its signal that Halifax will continue to be a key brand under the umbrella of the newly-created group.

"It is very encouraging that the day after the merger, we continued a constructive dialogue with Lloyds Banking Group's key decision makers on how the merger will affect Yorkshire.

"They reaffirmed their commitment to regular meetings and we will take every opportunity to champion the strength of the Yorkshire Region.

"Yorkshire staff of the new banking group in the region can be confident that we are making a strong case and I will continue to work with Yorkshire Forward and others to keep up the momentum and press for the best possible outcomes for Yorkshire and Yorkshire jobs"

Mrs Winterton travelled to the capital with assistant Regional Minister Jeff Ennis and Yorkshire Forward chief executive Tom Riordan.

Mr Riordan said: "We are pleased with the progress that has been made in building good relationships with key decision makers within Lloyds TSB and believe we have presented a compelling case for Yorkshire."

Present from Lloyds Banking Group were Helen Weir, group executive director of UK retail banking, Lloyds Banking Group and also in charge of Yorkshire, Helen Rose, director of integration and Rosa Wilkinson, director of public policy and regulation.
