Revamps for 8 more play areas
MORE of our playgrounds are set for a revamp as part of a £1 million Government grant.
Calderdale Council has announced eight new sites are to be redeveloped in a second phase of work.
Designs and proposals for the parks have been put on show at Halifax Town Hall and work should begin later this year.
The council were ridiculed earlier in April for holding official unveiling ceremonies on six new play areas during the first phase of work – despite some being no more than muddy building sites.
The official openings had to take place by the end of March, even though a lot of the play equipment was not in place, or Calderdale Council risked losing its grant.
The new sites to be developed in the second phase of work are to be at Roils Head; Clay House, West Vale; Mount Tabor; Scout Road, Mytholmroyd; Meadow Bottoms, Todmorden; Mill Bank; Fairfax Crescent, Southowram and Beech Recreation Ground, Sowerby Bridge.
Ian Cooper, community services portfolio holder, said: "We are committed to ensuring local play areas in Calderdale are great places for children to have fun, be active and make friends.
"We recognise the importance of play and we are committed to ensure play areas in Calderdale are safe environments and both attractive and stimulating for local children."
The sites refurbished during the first phase of work were at Mixenden, Boothtown and King Cross in Halifax, and at Brighouse, Sowerby Bridge and Luddenden Foot were unveiled in April this year.
