Revealed: the winning bands who will play at the Piece Hall on Neighbours' Day

THE winners of a competition to perform live at the Piece Hall have been announced.

Two local bands will play at Calderdale Neighbours' Day on Friday May 29 after winning a prize draw.

They are the McCarrons, an acoustic/indie/folk band from Halifax formed in 2004.

They have played venues in York and Malham as well as throughout Calderdale. The band is made up of Michael McCarron (vocals and lead guitar), Louis McCarron (vocals and guitar) and Blair Murray (drums).

The other winners were Stanley in Heaven, a five-piece indie/rock/pop band. All its members are sixth formers at Crossley Heath School, Halifax.

They have been together for two years and have played venues all over Yorkshire, made several appearances on radio and performed on stage at the Manchester Academy.

They have also recently won a place in the Live and Unsigned North West area final.

Stanley in Heaven are Guy Johnston (drums), Joe Wilde (bass), Caleb Grinsdale (guitar and vocals), Joe Pritchard (guitar and piano) and Joey Whitehead (vocals).

Co-ordinator Jo Budgen said: "These two bands both have a great following locally and are sure to draw the crowds when they perform onstage in the Piece Hall during the afternoon of Neighbours' Day." It will run from 11am to 4pm on Friday May 29.

Activities will include circus skills, a playbus, live music, dance workshops, a road crash demo, dance, grow your own food demonstrations and a market.

Last year over 8,000 people attended.
