Robber threatens taxi driver's life during robbery
A ROBBER threatened to kill a terrified taxi driver while holding a weapon to his face and spraying him with a mystery liquid.
The 68-year-old taxi driver, from Whitehill Taxis, had picked up a fare in Furness Drive, Illingworth, Halifax, just before 9pm on Friday.
The man asked to be taken to Dodge Holme Drive at Mixenden but halfway into the journey he said he wanted to go to Roper Green back towards Illingworth.
Det Insp Ashley Hewitt said: "When the taxi driver pulled up at Roper Green the passenger sprayed him in the face with an unknown substance. The driver has then felt something sharp against his face and the passenger has said 'Give me your money or I will kill you'."
Police are appealing for witnesses and have issued a description of the suspect.
He is described as white, 5ft 11in, average build and was wearing a beige parker style jacket.
The taxi driver was left shaken up by the incident.
Police are examining CCTV from the area.
Anyone with information should contact Calderdale CID on 01422 337085 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
