School builds on its strengths

A fee-paying school which opened in 1994 has received a glowing report from inspectors.

Rastrick Independent School is led with vision and strength, has committed staff and meets all the regulatory requirements.

The overall effectiveness of the early years foundation stage is described as outstanding as is the leadership and management.

"Individual needs are met thorough detailed knowledge of each child and strong home-school links."

"The children are active learners and enjoy being at school and demonstrate a high degree of interest and excitement in the rich and varied activities."

Behaviour is also outstanding and the only drawback is that policies and guidelines across most of the school have become too extensive and unwieldy.

Six staff from the Independent Schools Inspectorate spent four days at the school which has 334 pupils – 167 in the main school, another 54 up to the age of five, 86 in the prep school and 27 in the grammar school.

They found that the children enjoy a good educational experience.

"A particular strength is the provision for developing skills in literacy, speaking, listening and numeracy.

"Curriculum planning is extremely detailed and thorough in the prep school."

Boys and girls make equivalent progress, the quality of learning is mostly good and throughout the school, pupils study and work co-operatively with others.

Spiritual development is excellent in the prep and grammar schools, moral development is outstanding and social development good.

"Throughout the school, teachers know their pupils well and the great majority of teaching is very well planned.

"The outstanding standards of pastoral care and comprehensive measures to ensure pupils' welfare, health and safety are notable features," said the inspectors.

Headmistress and proprietor Susan Vaughey said the report affirmed the school motto of Only The Best For The Best.

"Parents who chose Rastrick do so secure in the knowledge that in all aspects of their child's learning – from birth to 16 – their child is nurtured in an environment which not only produces academic results, but educates them within a community committed to their whole development.

"My team and I are delighted to have this recognition from ISI and look forward to continuing this excellence."
