Second race attack probed
POLICE have revealed a second man was beaten in a race hate attack.
Jonothan Howard, aged 19, had been out with his girlfriend and was on his way to a take away restaurant near the Plummet Line pub in Halifax town centre when a gang of six Asian men barged between them.
Detective Inspector Mark McManus, of Calderdale CID, said when Mr Howard challenged the gang about their rudeness they knocked him to the floor and began kicking him.
As two of the six attacked him they continued to shout racial abuse. Mr Howard, who works at Nestle, Halifax, received extensive bruising to his face following the incident at around 2.15am on Sunday.
"It is being treated as racially motivated," said Det Insp McManus.
He said they were not ruling out a link between the attack on Mr Howard and the attack on bank worker Scott Gilling.
Mr Gilling had his nose broken when he was attacked by six Asian men in a car park behind King Cross Road at 5pm on Sunday.
The two men who attacked Mr Howard were both Asian, one was 5ft 6in with hair cut short at the back and sides. The second was 5ft 9in, with a shaven head and was wearing a large black jacket.
