Shock as driverless car rolls down hill and smashes into garden wall

A CAR rolled down a hill and smashed into a house – while the householder slept soundly inside.

The Y-registered Ford Focus plunged down All Souls' Road, Boothtown, Halifax, and came to a stop in the front garden of a house on the corner of Randolph Street.

The owner of the property, Carl Bloodworth, was asleep inside and did not wake up until a friend who had passed by and seen the smash phoned him to check he was not hurt.

The 30-year-old came downstairs and opened his front door to find the dark grey Ford blocking his way and debris and stones from the wall strewn across his front garden and the pavement.

The car damaged the low garden wall and bay window at the front.

Mr Bloodworth said: "It is bad. I was speechless when I saw it.

"My car is normally outside but there was another one there this morning so I parked further up. It would have been written off if it had been there."

The car had been parked about 200 metres higher up the steeply sloping road on the left hand side.

The driver had been on business in a house nearby.

While she was gone the Ford rolled down the hill, smashed through the low wall in front of the house on the other side of the road and came to rest in the garden.

A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police said no-one was injured in the accident, which happened at 3.10pm yesterday.

Neighbour Jamie Davison, 21, said he had heard a bang. "I looked out and saw the car there.

"There are loads of lorries that come down here and I thought it was just that."
