Stuart takes over as clan chieftain
STUART Lawlor is the proud head of a family of thousands.
This month he was appointed the O'Leathlobhair clan chieftain.
The Gaelic name represents the family of Lawlor, Lalor and Lawler.
Mr Lawlor, 63, has always been interested in his family tree and, in 2000, learned about clans of Ireland and visited the O'Leathlobhair reunion the following year, in County Laois, where the name originated from.
He has been a regular ever since and the reunion takes in Gaelic sport, a tour of the area and banquet.
As chieftan he expects to make visits to Ireland throughout the next 12 months representing his clan at functions, accompanied by his wife, Sheila.
"I'm very proud to have been nominated as the first overseas chieftan," he said.
Mr Lawlor, of Huddersfield, is originally from Calderdale. He works in Halifax for Age Concern Calderdale and Kirklees.
He still plays rugby. Last year he played for Heath, and had played for Old Brodleians, for more than 30 years.
