Taking the Next Step in helping young people
YOUNG people with disabilities have been stepping into the shoes of police officers.
Community officers have been working with Halifax-based The Next Step Trust which provides day care for 19-30-year-olds who have complex learning disabilities.
Community engagement officer, Sgt Alec Szoradi, said: "The main purpose was to help them learn about developing friendships and build their confidence to handle different situations in life.
"It has been great for everyone and there has been learning on both sides.
"They have heard about the work the police do, how we help people and they even got to try on the uniform."
Head of The Next Step Trust centre, Helen Lane, said: "I would like to thank Alec on behalf of everyone for his time and positive approach.
"The young people loved it when the police van was brought here and dressing up as a policeman was a favourite bit."
