Tesco given go-ahead to put solar panels on King Cross store

A CALDERDALE supermarket has been given the green light to install 15 rooftop solar panels in a bid to become more environmentally friendly.

Tesco at Aachen Way, King Cross, Halifax, could also have a 10.5m high wind turbine in the car park.

A store spokesman said: "This investment is part of our community plan, cutting energy use where we can to lower our carbon footprint.

"The panels use the latest technology, are very efficient and will genuinely help meet the energy needs of the store."

The south-facing panels – which will each be made up of 30 high efficiency solar tubes and will not be visible from ground level – were approved by Calderdale Council's planning officials this week.

A decision is still pending on the turbine, although one is expected within the next month.

The spokesman added: "We are delighted that we have received permission to go ahead and we hope customers are excited and hope it demonstrates in a clear way our commitment to tackling climate change."
