Thank you all for trying to save him: Rescuers praised by heart attack victim's partner
A RESCUE team has been praised after trying desperately to save a man who collapsed while out walking.
John Taylor, 65, from Norton Tower, Halifax, was at Bronte Waterfalls in Haworth when he died from a suspected heart attack.
His partner, Jeannette Hardy, said she wanted to thank the volunteers from Calderdale Valley Search and Rescue Team and paramedics at Yorkshire Air Ambulance who did their best to resuscitate him. She said they had been walking with a friend in Bronte Country when the tragedy happened.
They took the trip as their friend, who runs a guesthouse in Ireland called Wuthering Heights, had always wanted to see the home of the famous literary family.
She said: "We set off on Friday to Wuthering Heights and got as far as Bronte Waterfalls when he had a heart attack.
"There were two couples who tried to help. I don't know who they were but I'd like to thank them as well."
Calder Valley Search and Rescue were scrambled and managed to get Mr Taylor to the air ambulance, but he could not be resuscitated.
Mr Taylor, originally from Elland, was an accountant and partner at Halifax firm Lambert, Roper and Horsfield until he retired in 1998. He was a member and financial secretary at West End Golf Club in Halifax and enjoyed walking with his two dogs.
His partner said: "He was a very quiet man, loved by everyone."
A spokeswoman for Yorkshire Air Ambulance said: "We went and assisted the land crew in trying to resuscitate him but unfortunately were unable to.
"We airlifted him from the scene to a waiting land ambulance because it was a difficult area to access."
Al Day, from the search and rescue team, said they often worked closely with the air ambulance when they were unable to get to a casualty.
He said the team would be holding an awareness day about the work it does at Gibson Mill, Hardcastle Crags, on Monday, May 3.
