The day I tackled Frank Lampard: Lee, eight, met football hero

THE dream of having a kickabout with his football hero became a reality for young Lee Broadbent.

The eight-year-old, of Mytholm Close, Hebden Bridge, was picked to meet England players Frank Lampard and Kelly Smith at the FA Tesco Skills workshop.

He had impressed judges with his ball skills at a roadshow organised by Tesco and the Football Association in Sowerby Bridge.

"I was really excited when I heard," said Lee, who plays for Todmor-den Sports Centre's under-nines.

"My friends were all quite jealous."

Lee, a pupil of Heptonstall Junior, Infant and Nursery School, was among 150 youngsters who travelled to the Hertfordshire hotel where England stayed when they played Kazakhstan.

There they took part in a private coaching session with England and Arsenal women's star Kelly Smith and England and Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard.

"I tackled Frank during a game and he said I was very fast," said Lee.

Lee, a Leeds United fan, has trained with the team's development centre, as well as with Bolton Wanderers and Blackburn Rovers, and hopes to pursue a career in football.

"I'm really proud," said Lee's mum Marie. "He's always been into football."

Talent for the game runs in his family. His brother Sean, 14, plays for Warley Rangers and sister Rebecca, 12, plays for Greetland Girls under 13s.
