The fashion show of the year

THE HOTTEST trends are about to step into the spotlight at the Courier Fashion Today show.

Tonight and tomorrow, local and national retailers will take to the catwalk at the Victoria Theatre, Halifax, to showcase their latest fashions for this season.

The event, sponsored by G&W Developments and Double AA Furnishings and in association with Overgate Hospice, Elland, is the Courier's first spring fashion show for eight years.

It will be hosted by celebrity florist Carl Wilde and Bernadette Gledhill, from the Louise Morton Model Agency.

There promises to be something for everyone, whether you are looking forward to your summer holidays, designing an outfit for a spring ball or planning a summer wedding.

More than 20 of the area's top shops have joined forces to cater for every occasion in the calendar.

From underwear and wedding outfits to high-street fashions and designer brands, there are clothes for men, women and children.

Knockout accessories will also be on show – shoes, hats, belts, scarves and jewellery to dazzle everyone.

Fashion Today promises to be an all-singing, all-dancing affair as 30 models and dancers from the Louise Morton Model Agency parade on the catwalk, along with young dancers from Babyballet Song and Dance Academy and the Whiteley's Academy of Performing Arts, both based in Halifax.

Young fashion designers of the future will also play a big part in the show.

Della Skinner, 23, will be showing us how to look good on a budget when she dresses six members of staff from Overgate Hospice in customised clothes from Overgate charity shops. And designers and apprentices from the Textile Centre of Excellence, Huddersfield, will show us the fashion talent on our doorstep.

The show also features one of Kylie Minogue's backing dancers, Nader Mush-arbash, Dragon's Den winner James Buckley, 10, and promising model Fiona Beck, 17, who is through to the finals of a TV supermodel show.

Tickets are still available for both shows. For details, contact the Victoria box office on 01422 351158.
