Thug beat his girlfriend's ex in savage attack
A THUG tracked down his girlfriend's ex-husband and beat him up in a savage attack in Sowerby Bridge.
Bradford Crown Court heard the victim, Terrence Mooney, 38, had parked his car when he noticed a dark-coloured car drive towards him at about 11pm on March 26 last year.
Attacker Mark Cartlidge, 28, a passenger in the car, opened his door and attacked Mr Mooney, grabbed him by the throat and repeatedly punched him in his head and ribs.
Martin Robertshaw, prosecuting, said Mr Mooney eventually managed to escape and went to hospital the next day, where he was treated for cuts and bruises on his body.
Mr Robertshaw said: "Mr Mooney and the defendant are known to each other. Cartlidge had formed a relationship with Mr Mooney's former wife and it appears there may have been some sort of bad feeling."
Cartlidge, of Browning Avenue, Siddal, Halifax, pleaded guilty to actual bodily harm.
Timothy Stead, for Cartlidge, agreed with Judge Jonathan Durham Hall QC who said while Cartlidge appeared to be a hard worker, he was also "clearly bad tempered and a poor thinker".
The court heard Cartlidge had previous convictions and since this attack had been convicted of assault and jailed for 12 weeks.
Judge Hall sentenced Cartlidge to nine months in prison, suspended for 12 months, gave him a 12-month supervision order and ordered him to do 100 hours of unpaid work and to go on a thinking skills programme to teach him to think before lashing out.
