Time for new lock gates on Rochdale Canal
TIME has taken its toll on the Rochdale Canal lock gates, some of which need to be replaced after only 17 years.
The problem gates are on lock number 16 at Lobb Mill, near Todmorden.
They were installed in 1993 as part of the scheme to completely restore the canal between Sowerby Bridge and Rochdale.
The canal company is seeking listed building consent from Calderdale Council "to improve gate longevity" and improve safety for users.
