Todmorden Agricultural Show: 80 – and still pulling in the crowds
THOUSANDS of people passed through the gates of Centre Vale Park for the 80th Todmorden Agricultural Show.
Cattle, sheep, goats and horses were all on display, as well as the smaller animals – rabbits, chickens and guinea pigs.
The crowds enjoyed a huge variety of entertainment, including Todmorden Community Brass Band, who brought their own brand of humour to the occasion, playing Rain-drops Keep Falling On My Head as the heavens opened.
But the showers did not put the spectators off, as they applauded the popular Malham-dale falconry display, demonstrations of duck herding and sheep shearing, the parade of hounds from the Holcombe Hunt and the K9 2000 dog agility display team and gun dog training.
There were also tents packed full of horticulture displays and arts and crafts, including painting, baking, photography, flower arranging and handicrafts.

Demonstrations of wood turning and beekeeping kept the crowds happy during the rain, and the ferret rescue tent proved very popular.
President of Todmorden Agricultural Society Peter Cryer said: "The show went very smoothly from start to finish. There was a good crowd and we had a good variety of everything, from trade stands to all kinds of animals. The horses are superb and we had an increase in the cattle and sheep sections. The sheep section went very well with more being entered and more breeds."
Cheryl Stovin, the Mayor of Todmorden, was among the visitors. She said: "It is just a wonderful event for the town and so much hard work goes into planning it.
"It is one of the high points of the Todmorden calendar and brings in people from all over the country."
Todmorden in Bloom and Incredible Edible Todmorden also kept visitors interested with their displays from primary schools showing that plants can be grown in almost anything, including wellies and bean cans.
There was also a dog show, the children's pet show, classic cars, motorcycles and tractors, fairground rides, a farmer's market, and stalls.
