Valley 'can help keep Kerbside in business'
Councils in the Calder valley are being asked to give support and funding to Kerbside.
Hebden Royd Town Council voted unanimously to back the company, which recycles refuse from 25,000 homes between Todmorden and Halifax.
An invitation will now be sent to all the valley's town and parish councils to join the fight, as well as trying to find funding and sending a letter of support to the company.
John Beacroft-Mitchell (Lib Dem), told the meeting: "Many people have been horrified by their treatment at the hands of Calderdale Council and we want to step in to help them as a recycling project and a social project.
"The thing that seperates Kerbside from its competitors is its social policies and we will do everything we can to support them."
Councillor Nader Fekri, said: "Many people in the Upper Valley are disgusted by Sita's treatment of Kerbside and the council taking such a lackadaisical and hands-off attitude.
"This would allow us to consider whether there is any way we could explore the possibilities of helping Kerb-side, which, we believe, has provided an excellent service and is a social enterprise to boot".
The directors of Kerbside have announ-ced they have enough money to guarantee the wages of their employees until the end of January 2009, subject to continued public support.
