Welcome back to Paul Weller: Former Jam frontman returning to Victoria Theatre, Halifax

ROCK icon Paul Weller is returning to Halifax.

The former frontman of punk band The Jam will play at the Victoria Theatre on Wednesday, December 2.

Tickets go on sale on Friday.

Weller, who has carved out a successful solo career since leaving The Jam and his follow-on band, The Style Council, is undertaking a nationwide tour which also takes in St George's Hall, Bradford, on Sunday, December 6.

He is gigging at The Eden Project, Cornwall, on Friday before heading to Belgium, Greece, Spain and Japan for summer festivals.

Weller first played the Victoria Theatre in May last year when fans queued from 4am to get tickets.

They sold out within three hours.

Victoria Theatre marketing manager John Sell said: "We're delighted Paul Weller is making a return to the theatre.

"We've just played host to comedian Michael McIntyre and the return of the Modfather, just two days after Status Quo rock the Victoria again, shows Halifax is on the radar of some of the best entertainers in the country."

The theatre has seen numerous big-name performers over the decades – including Michael Jackson in the mid-1970s.

In the past three or four years stars including Mancunian music icon Morrissey, controversial comedian and entertainer Russell Brand and comic-turned-Shakespearian actor Lenny Henry have taken to its stage.

The theatre has also hosted Scottish stand-up comic Frankie Boyle and on Saturday veteran entertainer Ken Dodd will be back with his Happiness Show.

Tickets for this year's Paul Weller gig are 32.50, plus a 1.50 booking fee per ticket.
