West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue's £11.5m savings
WEST Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Authority has made £11.5 million in efficiency savings since 2005/6.
The figure is more than South Yorkshire, Humberside and North Yorkshire combined – and the fourth highest level in the country.
Councillor Peter Harrand, who chairs the authority's finance and resources committee, stressed that the figures, though impressive, only recognised ongoing savings. If one-off savings were added, West Yorkshire's efficiencies would top 20 million over the five years.
"This is not money taken from frontline services, or set aside for a rainy day, it is cash that has been well managed and used for reinvestment in areas like community fire safety and training."
