When the school bell goes, it's Ready Steady Cook - report and video
THE aprons were off when Calderdale teachers competed in their own Ready Steady Cook contest.
Staff from Calder High School, Mytholmroyd, put their culinary skills to the test, cooking up a feast for a panel of judges.
The proceeds from the sponsored event will go towards the 20,000-target sixth formers at the school are trying to raise so they can embark on a volunteering mission to Uganda in Africa.
The competitors included head teacher Stephen Ball, who was making fishcakes from a trout he caught and smoked himself.
Mark Bellanfante, cover supervisor and form tutor, runs an after-school cookery club and came up with the idea.
He said: "I know a lot of the staff are avid food fans and thought it would be a good way to raise money and see what they can do."
Mr Bellanfante, who has worked at the Savoy Hotel in London and the Caledonian Hotel in Edinburgh, said the teachers really got into the spirit of it.
Each was given a 3 budget and just over an hour to prepare and cook their dish.
