Work to start on pavement between Elland and West Vale
PAVEMENT improvements are to be carried out on a narrow stretch of road between West Vale and Elland.
Work starts next Monday at Long Wall, Elland, on the Calderdale Council scheme to improve pedestrian access.
The route – which is used by large numbers of children travelling to school – will be reduced to one lane and become one way towards West Vale during the works.
Traffic will be diverted on to Saddleworth Road which, apart from local access, will become one way towards Elland Bridge.
Work will also be required at the adjoining scissors junction.
Council bosses warned it may be necessary at times to extend the lane closures to include the part of Saddleworth Road between the scissor junction and Stainland. But these should be restricted to weekends only.
Some bus services may also need to be diverted during the scheme which is expected to be finshed early next month.
