Young musicians win prizes
Young Calderdale musicians have earned top prizes at the prestigious Skipton Music Festival
Two children's ensembles who play at the West Calderdale Music Centre at Riverside Junior School, Hebden Bridge, were rated top out of more than a dozen groups from across Yorkshire.
Judges gave both groups – a junior ensemble aged up to 11 and an open one aged up to 18 – distinctions for their varied 10-minute sets at the fest.
They performed a variety of contemporary classics and old world jigs. Kevin Rivett, the centre's temporary acting head of service, said: "We're so proud of them because this is a big achievement.
"They were absolutely fantastic on the day, and their months of commitment and practicing really showed off. They performed like little professionals."
The two groups – consisting of about 20 youngsters aged as young as eight – played instruments ranging from the saxophone to the violin.
