Lock up in the warm weather

THE Indian summer has brought a warning from police for people to keep their property safe.

Crime-reduction officer for West Yorkshire Police Dave Whitteron said: “When it’s warm, people leave their windows and doors open, often while they are in the garden or other rooms.

“But they forget that this means their homes are an easy target for burglars who see an open window as an invitation to steal.

“As it is expected to be warm until this weekend, we are asking people not to leave items like car keys, mobile phones, wallets or purses, near insecure doors and windows.

“A burglar can be in and out of your open home in seconds – but will leave you with months of upset and frustration.”
