YORKSHIRE in Bloom judges visited Elland to view the town’s entry in this year’s competition.

Joe Braithwaite, chairman of the Elland and District Partnership, took them to Old Earth Primary School where they saw a new wildflower garden and vegetable plot.

The school received a £50 cheque after pupil Daisy Mason won a poster competition promoting environmental improvements.

Residents’ gardens were visited along with Riorges Link, Southgate Precinct and the Westgate area where the Barclay’s Bank community fund has brightened the area with planters.

Riverside Park was withdrawn from the judging after vandals trashed fencing and bins.
