Rugby fans travelling home after this evening’s match between Leeds Rhinos and Melbourne Storm are being warned that the westbound carriageway of the M62 between junctions 26 Chain Bar and 27 Gildersome will be closed later tonight.

The closure, which will allow the Highways Agency to install traffic monitoring equipment as part of the M62 managed motorway upgrade scheme, has been put back to 11pm to allow time for fans to travel home.

However, drivers are asked to leave the stadium promptly after the match and plan their journeys in advance.

Once the carriageway is closed, a diversion will be in place. The carriageway is expected to re-open at 8am on Saturday morning.

The eastbound carriageway will remain open throughout Friday night.

Further carriageway closures are planned in the same place overnight on Saturday (eastbound only) and Sunday (westbound only). These closures will take place between 8pm and 6am and diversions will be in place.
