MEET the young songbird hoping to wow the X Factor judges.
Malissa Campbell, from Elland, will be following in the footsteps of Leona Lewis and Alexandra Burke when she auditions for the TV talent show today.
The 22-year-old works at Norton House care home in Elland and has already been practising by performing for the residents there.
“I’m going to be singing Someone Like You by Adele,” she said.
“I’ve always enjoyed singing and have always wanted to perform.
“When I’m on stage I feel like a different person.”
This is not the first time Malissa has put herself forward for stardom – she has previously auditioned for reality show Big Brother.
She is so keen to have her shot at the X Factor that she and the friend she is going with are aiming to get to the heats, which are being held in Manchester, for 4am – even though they do not start until 8am.
Rooting for her at home will be all her friends and family including her one-year-old daughter Ruby.
Malissa said: “I’m really excited about it. There’ll be lots of people there and it would be terrific to meet Dermot O’Leary.”
