Man admits fireman assault

A MAN has appeared in court charged with assaulting a fireman as he battled a fire.

Watch commander Jonathan Dodd was fighting a blaze at Waddington Carpets, Bradford Road, Bailiff Bridge on Saturday when he was approached by a man shouting abuse.

Matthew Holt, 28, formerly of Bradford Road, Bailiff Bridge, admitted assault at Calderdale Magistrates’ Court.

Andy Dinning, prosecuting, said: “He said he was the chief of police and the boss, which was of some concern to Mr Dodd, who was fighting the fire and the comments being made.”

Holt left but returned soon after before shoving the fire officer.

His solicitor asked for Holt’s mental health to be considered in a report being prepared by probation officers.

Magistrates’ granted him conditional bail until his next appearance on November 7.
