A man has been taken to hospital with 30 per cent burns after escaping a fire in Luddendenfoot in the early hours of this morning.

Crews from Halifax, Illingworth and Mytholmroyd were called to Kershaw Crescent at midnight to reports that a man was trapped in the bedroom of a property.

A West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said the man was receiving advice from a fire control operator, but while crews were on route, he jumped from the property to escape the blaze.

The 41-year-old male is currently been treated in Leeds General Infirmary and is in a critical but stable condition.

Crews used six breathing apparatus, seven hose reels and a postive pressure ventilation fan to tackle the blaze and left the property at around 3am.

There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances.
