Man rescued by firefighters after falling off mountain bike

A man was rescued by firefighters after falling off his mountain bike this afternoon (Wednesday).

The incident happened in woodland area off Cemetery Lane, Sowerby Bridge.

The man, thought to be around 40 years old, had fallen ten metres down a steep embankment.

Crews from Halifax, Illingworth, Cleckheaton were called to the scene, along with the technical rescue unit from Cleckheaton, specialist officers and the Calder Valley Search and Rescue Team.

After being rescued, the man was walked to safety and chcked over by the Calder Valley Search and Rescue medical team.

The rescue team’s Todmorden crew also gave the casualty, and his bike, a lift back to the town.
