A metal poppy wreath was placed at a war memorial in Northowram.

The wreath, which was made by students from Calderdale College’s Motivate Centre, is placed on the new memorial stone outside the Old School House, Northowram.

Andrew Garrett, chair of the Northowram Scarecrow Event Committee, along with several members of community groups and Councillor Peter Caffrey gathered last week to view the wreath.

Mr Garrett said he was pleased with the poppy wreath, which completed the project.

“It just puts the final touch to the memorial stone,” he added.

The students - James Brezinski, Jono Gratix, Steven Setter, Jack Johnson and Jordan Cattermole, supported by Spencer Belson - all worked on the metalwork poppy wreath for the village memorial.

Helen Silson said: “Northowram Scarecrow Event Committee would like to thank Calderdale College, Calderdale Council, Marshalls Plc, Kris Elvidge (stonemason), Spot on Concrete and all those involved in developing the memorial.”

John Hoggard, of the local British Legion branch, joined Mr Garrett and the committee members to thank the students and everyone else who helped get the memorial wreath designed, completed and placed.
