CAMPING rights have been extended to 60 days on a West Vale sports field.
It is owned by the Yorkshire Radio Controlled Model Car Racing Club which holds weekend race meetings during the summer months which attract overnight camping.
The overnight stays don’t exceed 21 days a year but an application to extend that to 60 days has been agreed by Calderdale Council.
Planners said the application fitted its open spaces and green belt policies.
A condition of the permission is that a maintenance and management scheme for a period of five years to protect continued use of the site on Stainland Road for sport is approved.
Football teams use the field from August to May.
The model car racing club use a race track and club house behind the playing field.
“The extension to 60 days will allow for a larger proportion of countrywide enthusiasts and those further afield to enjoy the hobby,” said planners.
Club secretary David Dransfield said the race track is the premier circuit of its type in the UK.
“There are many racing meetings which attract competitors from throughout the UK, Europe and Scandinavia with many entrants choosing to use local hotels,” he said.
The club has been nominated to host major European events this year and 2013.
