A Brighouse montessori has appealed against a decision by Calderdale Council to turn down an application to expand.
Mill Cottage Montessori School on Wakefield Road, Brighouse, south permission to build a new nursery classroom for the under 5s.
But the application was rejected because the proposal to extend the grade two listed building falls on green belt land.
However, the school has launched an appeal against and is hopeful the council’s planning department will change the decision.
Montessori Principal Ailsa Nevile said she was confident the school would be granted permission.
“The decision was made because of where we are. It’s a really beautiful setting and neither us nor the council want to spoil it, but we’re quite confident that we’ll be able to go ahead with the annex,” she said.
A decision will be made on June 29.
