A further £50,000 is to be made available by the council to help businesses recovering from floods in the Calder Valley.

The money is in addition to the £200,000 already made available through Calderdale Council’s “Recovery Investment for a Stronger Economy” fund.

So far the council has visited or contacted well over 200 businesses affected by the floods and has allocated the money to 116.

Others should contact Chris Whittaker on 01422 392269 or John Hodgson on 01422 392235.

Meanwhile, some businesses are claiming that their futures are being put in doubt because insurance companies are refusing to offer them flood cover.

One landlord in Hebden Bridge has had a £15,000 claim for flood damage rejected by an insurer and is taking the case to the Financial Services Ombudsman, according to an insurance broker.
