Motor sports: Lloyd setting the pace

DONINGTON Park National Circuit in Leicestershire played host to Daniel Lloyd's latest ELF Renault Clio Cup test outing – quite possibly the 16-year-old's final track outing of the year as he seeks to conserve his budget for his 2009 campaign.

At the wheel of his Team Pyro run car, Scammonden based Lloyd emerged from the general test session as the fastest of the Clio drivers taking part as he continued to adapt to his 2.0-litre racer in impressive style.

"Donington went well, it was an open pit-lane so there were a lot of different cars on track which made getting clear laps quite difficult", said Lloyd, "We were still quick though and we tried a few different things with the car too which worked so we're very pleased with the progress we're making."

Having already secured backing for his debut season in the ELF Renault Clio Cup from West Yorkshire businesses Propack and The Workplace, the teenage ace is pressing on in his efforts to attract additional sponsorship to help ensure he can embark on a full pre-season testing programme in the New Year.

With the ELF Renault Clio Cup enjoying an even more prominent position on the HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship support package than the Ginetta Junior series he competed in during 2008, Lloyd's racing next year will reach a bigger audience both at the track, in the print media and on television.
