A motorbike rider from Hebden Bridge has been injured in a Manx Grand Prix race he was hotly tipped to win.

Jamie Coward, 21, suffered concussion when he crashed at Laurel Bank, eight miles into Tuesday’s delayed Junior race in the Isle of Man contest.

He was taken by helicopter to Noble’s Hospital and is understood to have been released yesterday evening.

Jamie was a favourite for the race, with his lap of 119mph average the fastest in practice across all of the nine classes for the Manx Grand Prix.

He did not ride in Wednesday’s Supertwin race and it is not thought he would take part in tomorrow’s Blue Riband Senior race and he is understood to be required to take a two-week break from racing.
