Motorists warned to keep vehicles secure - particularly when defrosting

Police are urging motorists to keep their car secure at all times - and pay particular attention when defrosting their vehicle.

The warning comes after a car was stolen from an address on Clifford Avenue, Wakefield, on Tuesday.

The owner had left the engine of his vehicle running to defrost it when the car was taken.

“People should keep their car secure at all times - even if they are standing nearby as it defrosts or just nipping back into the house to collect something. You only need to turn your back for a few seconds for a thief to make off with your vehicle,” said Sergeant Mark Beet of the Wakefield Central Neighbourhood Policing Team.

“Some insurance companies will also refuse to pay out so it is even more important that you keep your vehicle locked and secure.”
