The team which covers the southern half of of the county said the site offered excellent access to Huddersfield, Dewsbury, Leeds, Wakefield and Castleford.

The fire station has not been operational since April and the team feels it gives them “security for the future” and would remain “a valuable community asset”.

The volunteer rescue team already occupies part of the station and keeps two rescue vehicles in the building.

The team frequently search for missing people and assist ambulances in bad weather.
