The mother of a 17-year-old boy killed in a speeding car will take to the streets of Halifax to continue her fight for justice.
Daniel Atkinson, from Huddersfield, and his friend Jade Rice, also 17, of Savile Park, died in 2006 when a speeding car driven by their care worker smashed into a lamppost in Bradley, near Brighouse.
An 2008 inquest heard Mohammed Tanwir was driving at 80mph or more in a 40mph area when he lost control of the car.
Coroner Roger Whittaker concluded the teenagers were unlawfully killed, but would not refer the case to the Department of Public Prosecution.
A judge previously ruled there was insufficient evidence for a charge of death by dangerous driving, and Mr Tanwir was acquitted of a lesser charge of failing to stop.
But Daniel’s mum Linda Hawker is asking the people of Halifax to sign a petition on Saturday, March 22 calling on Mr Tanwir to be prosecuted.
She said: “We’re delighted with the response so far. Daniel’s friends have signed it and made t-shirts for us to wear but every signature helps.”
